Why This Reference Exists
Printed Pittsburgh directories ended as an everyday current source, but their functions were divided among record systems. Allegheny County’s Office of Property Assessments and Department of Real Estate hold different property clues. Pennsylvania controls the statewide voter, vital-record, and court channels. Carnegie Library, Historic Pittsburgh, City Archives, and the State Archives preserve dated material. Pittsburgh Residents Directory brings together the search starting points, coverage limits, office details, and fallback routes without claiming to be the custodian of any record.
What the Directory Provides
- Pages by angle: the street directory for address-led records, the city directory for historical volumes, and the resident lookup for a one-person verification trail
- Custodians and collections: property assessment, DRE land records, elections, court records, vital records, library collections, and archives
- Practical methods: ways to compare a parcel, deed, docket, directory entry, or dated household clue without treating a single hit as conclusive
- Access boundaries: Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law basics, separate court and vital-record procedures, and privacy limits that protect some information
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference with no connection to a Pittsburgh office, Allegheny County department, Pennsylvania agency, court, or library. Important limits include:
- We cannot confirm that a specific person currently lives in Pittsburgh
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every coverage date, link, or office detail remains current
Only the actual custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. This reference is not a consumer reporting agency and its material cannot be used for FCRA-regulated decisions.
